UH Research Day

Today the University of Houston’s Physics Department hosted an exciting Physics Research Day, welcoming high school students with a passion for science and physics to our campus. It was an incredible opportunity to share our love for physics and give these bright young minds a glimpse into the world of research and discovery.

I had the pleasure of presenting a slide about our campus organizations—the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and the Astronomy Society at UH (ASUH). It was a blast introducing students to the opportunities available through SPS and ASUH, from hands-on experiments and outreach events to stargazing nights and community building. One of my favorite parts of the day was guiding the students on a tour of our observatory.

I also took some time to explore the research posters and presentations by my friends in the Physics PhD program. Their work is always inspiring, and it was wonderful to see the high school students engaging with complex topics, asking thoughtful questions, and getting a taste of the kind of research they could pursue in the future.

Events like Physics Research Day are so important—not just for recruitment but for sparking curiosity and showing students what’s possible with a career in science. I’m so grateful to have been part of it and can’t wait to see some of these students back on campus as future Coogs!
